On Tuesday Horadada Bowls
Club played host to The Pembroke Bowls
Club visiting club from the UK. They
were out here on a bowling holiday. It
was an afternoon start and right on cue
the sun came out and shone brilliantly
throughout the match. It was one of the
most enjoyable days that I personally
have had in a very long time. Our guests
were the friendliest people one could
wish to meet right from the moment they
stepped onto our green. I must admit
when we saw all the badges some were
wearing I thought, hello, we are in for
a sound beating here, but that could not
have been further from the truth. Almost
from the start Horadada took control on
all but one of the rinks and by the end
of play we had maintained that position.
However I have to say that I did not
detect any sign of remorse from the
Pembroke team and in fact for once who
came out winners did not mater one hoot.
After the game our social secretary
Frank Reed had arranged for us all to
have a meal at our local Chinese Wok in
la Torre. With fifty or so people all
converging at once upon the venue it
must have been quite daunting for the
waiters. However everything was ready
for us, the food was hot and plentiful.
For some who had never been to a Wok
before it was quite an experience. In
fact some on my table did not realize
that after the starter’s one still had
the main course cooked for them in the
Wok still to come. I have say that the
whole evening was very well planned and
thanks must go to “Jongteng” of the Gran
Wok for a simply first class evening.
The Pembroke Dock Club had quite a busy
few days bowling ahead of them so at
about 7pm their coach arrived to take
them to their hotel. We wished them
goodnight and waved them off and we hope
they were not too hung over the next
day, for they had to do it all again at
Country Bowls the following morning. If
Pembroke Bowls Club should get to read
this before you leave to go home I would
just like to say a big thank you to all
your members and we certainly look
forward to doing it again sometime.
